    A PWC structure has developed for an industrial scale SITC plant. Based on the performance evaluation, it has been shown that the SITC plant developed via the proposed modified SOC structure can produce satisfactory performance – smooth and reliable operation. The SITC plant is capable of achieving a thermal efficiency of 69%, which is the highest attainable value so far. It is worth noting that the proposed SITC design is viable on the grounds of economic and controllability

    A proof of concept on real-time air quality monitoring system

    According to the Department of Environment Malaysia, Air Pollutant Index (API) is an indicator for the air quality status at any particular area. API is calculated based on average concentration of air pollutants such as Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), ground level Ozone (O3) and particulate matter (PM10), each over their respective period of averaging time. A sub-index for each pollutant is determined separately based on a predetermined standard and the highest sub- index is used as the API (Department of Environment Malaysia, 2000). The United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) (2010) defines PM10 as "Inhalable coarse particles," such as those found near roadways and dusty industries, are larger than 2.5 micrometers and smaller than 10 micrometers in diameter (United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2010). Typically, the concentration PM10 is the highest among all pollutants in Malaysia and therefore it determines the API value (APIMS DOE Malaysia, 2015)

    Non-registration of Muslim marriages in Malaysia: socio-legal implication

    There are no single provisions found in the Al Qur´an or as Sunnah as relates to registration of marriage, but there are equally no prohibitory provisions as well. The purpose of the enforcement of registration is to remove the difficulty of proving the marriage. As such, the obligation to register marriage is important as it is for the benefit (maslahah) and protection of the society at large. The effect of unregistered marriage is not felt until and unless when the parties face matrimonial difficulties. The SharÊÑah court has no jurisdiction to entertain their cases until it is proven that their marriage is registered or deemed registered or valid according hukum shara´. Therefore, if the parties cannot prove the validity of their marriage by the assistance of the person solemnizing the marriage or by the witnesses of their marriage, the registration of the marriage will facilitate to prove the existence of their marriage. This article is to establish the importance of registration and the effect of non-registration that will lead to various socio-legal implications

    Work and women’s well-being: religion and age as moderators

    Religion has been found to moderate the stress–strain relationship. This moderator role, however, may be dependent on age. The present study tested for the threeway interaction between work experience, age, and religiosity in the prediction of women’s well-being, and predicted that work experience and religiosity will combine additively in older women, while in younger women religiosity is predicted to moderate the relationship between work experience and well-being. In a sample of 389 married Malay Muslim women, results of the regression analyses showed significant three-way interactions between work experience, age, and religiosity in the prediction of well-being (measured by distress symptoms and life satisfaction). While in younger women the results were in line with the predictions made, in the older women, both additive and moderator effects of religiosity were observed, depending on the well-being measures used. These results are discussed in relation to the literature on work and family, with specific reference to women’s age, religion, as well as the issue of stress–strain specificity

    Abstract - Liquidity risk arises from maturity mismatches where liabilities have a shorter tenor than assets. A sudden rise in the borrowers‟ demands above the expected level can lead to shortages of cash or liquid marketable assets (Oldfield and Santamero, 1997). This paper aims to analyse the liquidity risks and disclosure as well as to draw the relationship between liquidity risks and financial performance measures using return on assets (ROA) and return of equity (ROE) of the Islamic banks. Based on selected Islamic banks in Malaysia over the period from 2006 to 2008, the study also attempts to determine the impact of the global financial crisis on the Islamic banks‟ liquidity risks and financial performance. Findings of the study contribute towards enriching the literature on the risk management of the Islamic banks by providing deeper understanding on issues relating to liquidity risk management by the Islamic banks

The majority of organizations face a common problem in determining their security metrics aligned with their security objectives. SecureMet will be able to assist the organization in choosing the suitable security metrics and helping it to enhance its capabilities to achieve its security objectives. The tool is developed based on the Quality Function Development (QFD) approach, while existing frameworks such as the SSE-CMM and COBIT are used as guides in the determination and choice of the security capabilities and security objectives. The methodology employed for this project is based on the Rapid Application Develoment (RAD) model and is divided into four parts, namely, the requirement analysis phase, the design phase, the development phase and the verification phase

    Model selection and model averaging on mortality of upper gastrointestinal bleed patients

    Model Selection (MS) is known to produce uncertainty into model-building process. Besides that, the process of MS is complex and time consuming. Therefore, Model Averaging (MA) had been proposed as an alternative to overcome the issues. This research will provide guidelines of obtaining best model by using two modelling approach which are Model Selection (MS) and Model Averaging (MA) and compares the performance of both methods. Corrected Akaike Information Criteria (AICc) and Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC) were applied in the model-building using MS to help determine the best model. In MA process, model selection criteria are needed to compute the weights of each possible models. Two model selection criteria (AICcand BIC) were compared to observe which will produce model with a better performance. For guidelines illustration, data of Upper Gastrointestinal Bleed (UGIB) were explored to identify influential factors which leads to the mortality of patients. At the end of the study, best model using MA shown to have a better performance andAICc is proven to be a better model selection criterion approach in MA. In conclusion, the most significant factors for mortality of UGIB patients were identified to be shock score, comorbidity and rebleed

    Utilization of garcinia mangostana dyes for superhydrophobic oncotton textile application

    The demand for textile products has increases rapidly nowadays and so did the production. Hence, people tend use synthetics dyes because it is cheaper and more durable as compared to natural dyes. Therefore, synthetic dyes has contributed to dye wastewater and becomes one of the causes of outrageous pollution in nowadays. Factories that discharge this wastewater as harmful toxic waste, colourfull and organic chemicals from dyeing. Chemicals such as sulphur, vat dyes, arsenic, and certain auxiliary chemicals make the wastewater highly toxic and poisonous [1]. In order to overcome this problem, an alternative way has to be found. One of the alternative way is to make a good use of the waste from the nature, for example, the peel of mangosteen. Mangosteen or known as Garcinia mangostana is one of the fruits that can be found easily in Malaysia during monsoon season. So, the difficulty of getting these fruits are not very hard. However, the rind of mangosteens are non-edible and being thrown unknowingly by most of the people in Malaysia. The rinds of the fruits contain high level of anthocyanin pigments which can be used in dyeing application of fabric. The utilization of fruit hulls of Garcinia mangostana will help to reduce biodegradable wastes in the environment. Its reuse or recycling will also aids in the halting of the release of greenhouse gases. Natural dyes are beneficial to the environment and it can reduces the water pollution [2]
